Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is proud to announce the promotions of four members of the Sheriff's Office during a ceremony held Thursday.

Deputy Ed Hyde is promoted to sergeant and assigned to the patrol office. The sheriff's office hired Hyde in 2014 as a patrol deputy. He has worked in numerous posts and units, including the Honor Guard, as a field training deputy and in tactical and hazardous devices units. Hyde was twice nominated for Law Enforcement Division Employee of the Month and received a Unit Citation in the Honor Guard and a Life Saving Award. Sergeant Hyde holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and is one of nine law enforcement officers in Sarasota County to be a Certified Bomb Technician for United States Public Safety.

Deputy Dan Hodge is promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The Sheriff’s Office hired Hodge in 2010 as a Patrol Deputy. He then worked in the Special Operations Bureau in the Fugitive Apprehension Unit. Sergeant Hodge has been nominated three times for the Law Enforcement Division Employee of the Month and received the award in June 2014. He is currently pursuing a degree in Public Safety and Emergency Management.

Deputy Ron Bairos is promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The Sheriff’s Office hired Bairos in 2014 as a Deputy Patrolman. He was later transferred to Special Operations within the Fugitive Apprehension Unit. That same year, he was appointed to SWAT. Sergeant Bairos has been nominated three times for the Law Enforcement Division Employee of the Month and received that award as well as a Lifesaving Award in 2023. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social and Criminal Justice.

Sergeant Kyle Pfender is promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The Sheriff’s Office hired Pfender in 2011 as a Patrol Deputy. He has held various positions in the Tactical, Special Investigations and Criminal Investigations Unit. In 2013, he was assigned to SWAT where he served as an attacker and team mentor. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 and has been nominated twice for the Law Enforcement Division Employee of the Month. He has also received a Merit Award for his work on a long-term operation as well as a Unit Citation. Lieutenant Pfender holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Criminology.

“Leadership and hard work are two important characteristics shared by these members,” Sheriff Hoffman said. “We recognize the years of hard work these individuals have put in and congratulate them as they take the next steps in their careers here at SCSO.”
