Weekend homicide suspect identified remains at large

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Authorities have identified a suspect accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old near the Tuttle Crossing area Saturday.

Court documents said the victim, Kiara Nelson, 18, was with her sister at an apartment in the 6000 block of O'Sweeney Lane on Saturday when the suspect, identified as Mika Cannon, 22, came at the apartment after an argument with the victim's sister on the phone.

Court documents went on to say Nelson tried to hold Cannon off his sister and she was shot while doing so.

Nelson was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition and died there a short time later. The suspect has not yet been taken into custody.

Authorities charged Cannon with murder in the case and issued a warrant for his arrest.
