Weather forecast: heat close to record

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The weekend is full of sunshine and warmth. The highs of the coming days could challenge historical records.

  • Saturday night: Slight chance of showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. A calm night lies ahead. Lows in the 70s.
  • Sunday: Scattered fog in the morning. It is warm with mostly sunny skies. Highs in the upper 90s.
  • Extended: Rain chances increase next week, giving way to widespread showers.

Stay hydrated! High temperatures reach the upper 90s with temperatures “feeling” above 100 degrees in parts of north-central Florida. We have an anticyclone in the area which brings us abundant sunshine. Expect a slight chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms Saturday, but not too much to change your weekend plans. Sunday is full of sunshine and another day of heat. Take a hat or sunscreen when going out. The UV index will be high, making it a great day to get outside. Wear your sunglasses, drink water and stay safe this weekend!
