Waverly man arrested on drug charges, allegedly found sleeping in stranger's car

WAVERLY, N.Y. (WETM) — A Waverly man was arrested on drug charges after police say he was found in the backseat of a stranger's car.

David Alan Gantkowski, 41, was arrested May 23 after police investigated a report of a man entering a car parked on Broad Street in Waverly. According to the Waverly Police Department, officers received a call about Gantkowski getting into the backseat of an unlocked vehicle and “passing out” around 11:12 a.m. Thursday. Gantowski was still in the vehicle when officers arrived on scene.

Police said officers searched Gantowski and found 24 grams of methamphetamine, 10 grams of cocaine, one gram of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and numerous benzodiazepine and alprazolam pills. Officers also questioned Gantowski and learned that he did not know the owner of the car he was found in and had randomly entered the vehicle.

Gantowski was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class B felony), one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class C felony), and 'one count of felony in the seventh degree. possession of a controlled substance (a class A misdemeanor).

The charges against Gantowski were read in Waverly Village Court on May 25. He was released and awaits further legal action.
