Waterloo man who lied about car crash with sister arrested for third time in two months

Police say a local man who had been arrested several times in recent months has been taken into custody again after another incident.

Matthew R. Garneau, 23, was arrested June 14 for criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Waterloo Police Department.

Garneau was arrested on a New York State Police warrant when officers found him in possession of a substance suspected to be crack cocaine. He was issued a ticket and is scheduled to appear in Waterloo City Court on July 17 at 5 p.m.

He was previously arrested in late May on an arrest warrant and was also found to be in possession of drugs during that incident. Earlier in the spring, he was arrested with his sister for fleeing a car accident and acting with her to conceal the driver.

The Waterloo Police Department was assisted by the New York State Police and the Seneca County Sheriff's Office.
