Water Rescue at Kure Beach | Search Underway for Missing Swimmers on North Carolina Beaches

KURE BEACH, North Carolina (WTVD) — A search for a missing swimmer is underway at Kure Beach.

An eyewitness shared video with ABC11 as the search unfolded off the North Carolina coast.

The video shows a coast guard vessel on the water.

Rescuers scoured the ocean as they searched for a 22-year-old man who went missing around noon Thursday.

ABC11 has also learned that a water rescue operation is underway at North Topsail Beach, where crews are searching for a 14-year-old boy.

ABC affiliate WCTI reported that city officials said the search for the boy, who disappeared in the New River Inlet, would resume Friday.

Crews searched the surrounding waters, including the entirety of New River Bay, but did not find the teen. Two other people were rescued from the ocean earlier Thursday.

There is a moderate risk of rip currents on southern North Carolina beaches.

An 18-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, drowned in Nag's Head on Wednesday. Rescuers were able to save two other youths who were swimming with the victim.

The Outer Banks has a high risk of rip currents this weekend.
