WATCH: Teen uses MMA skills on suspected thief in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WANE via STORYFUL) – A teenage gym employee used his training in mixed martial arts and jiu-jitsu to shoot down a man he suspected of trying to break into his car in central Indiana on June 3, according to the gym director. .

Surveillance footage shows Gavin Archer, 18, opening the door to 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Indianapolis and speaking to a man outside. A moment later, the man lunges at Archer who uses his fighting skills to bring him to the ground.


“Through Gavin's years of training in martial arts and jiu-jitsu, he was able to minimize the blows thrown at him…by securing the man's back and choking him to remove the immediate threat of danger in order to so he can call the police,” Ian Pomfret, the gym manager, wrote on Instagram.

According to Pomfret, the alleged thief told Archer he worked at a nearby auto shop and thought Archer's vehicle was “a car he was supposed to work on.” Pomfret told Storyful that charges have been filed against the attacker.

In an Instagram post, Archer, who has a blue belt in jiu-jitsu, said he hoped his attacker “gets the help he needs.”
