WATCH: Funnel cloud forms in New Hampshire as storms destroy trees, spark house fire – Boston News, Weather, Sports

MANCHESTER, NH (WHDH) – Emergency crews rushed to a Manchester, New Hampshire home Sunday to put out a fire started by lightning as a series of powerful thunderstorms moved through the area.

The homeowners said they were having dinner when they received a call that their Boynton Street home had been struck by lightning.

“My tenant called me and said, 'Hey, your house was hit by lightning,'” Michael Poisson recalls. “I thought it was a joke but his voice was a little shaky and I said, 'Are you serious?' and he said, 'Mike, yeah, I'll call 911!'

Firefighters said they were prepared for the possibility of fires as the storms moved through.

“The guys were on high alert because of the impending storm,” said Manchester Fire Battalion Chief Kenneth Proulx.

The fire was quickly brought under control and the house suffered no significant damage.

Elsewhere, a storm system that triggered multiple tornado warnings downed trees and branches in Keene and a funnel cloud was filmed in Dublin, New Hampshire.
