Washtenaw County plane crash victim identified

Michigan State Police have identified Dearborn resident Kevin Kreger, 46, as the flight instructor killed Monday in a single-engine plane crash in Washtenaw County.

The flight had another passenger, a 22-year-old man from North Carolina and a student at the University of Michigan. He was injured in the crash and flown to University Hospital in Ann Arbor for treatment. Police had no updates on the student's condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a National Transportation Safety Board investigator was expected to be on site Tuesday to begin documenting the site and examining the plane. The aircraft will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation.

A small plane crashed into a vacant farm field at East Michigan Avenue and Lima Center Road in Bridgewater Township Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:10 p.m. at East Michigan Avenue and Lima Center Road in Bridgewater Township, about 15 miles southwest of Ann Arbor.

The body of the plane, a Piper PA-28 Cherokee, was still intact Monday afternoon but the front end had collapsed. It was manufactured in 1975 and registered to Silvered Wings LLC in Howell, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.
