YAKIMA COUNTY – State fire assistance was mobilized as part of the Washington State Fire Department's Resource Mobilization Plan to support local firefighters working to contain the Slide Ranch Fire located in Yakima County, near the town of White Swan. The Slide Ranch Fire started on June 22, 2024 at approximately 3:46 p.m. This fire is estimated at 300 acres and continues to grow. It burns in grass, brush and heavy wood. Homes are at risk and level 3 evacuations are in effect at this time. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is activated to Level 2, partial activation to assist with mobilization efforts. Bureau of Fire Protection mobilization specialists ordered two forest strike teams and air assets. The incident commander, Captain Anthony Oaks, works in the unified command with Yakima Nation fire management personnel. As part of the state fire service resource mobilization plan, the Office of Fire Protection coordinates the initial dispatch and ongoing administrative oversight of resources and personnel throughout the duration of the mobilization.
