Washington shooting leaves one dead, juvenile arrested

WASHINGTON, Utah — A man is dead and a juvenile is in custody after a shooting occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday at 20 North Red Trail in Washington City.

The Washington City Police Department said in a news release that it received reports of shots fired at an apartment complex shortly before 2 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. Officers said they began CPR until a medical team could take over. The man was then reportedly taken to St. George Regional Hospital and pronounced deceased.

Using security cameras at the apartment complex, police said they were able to track down a juvenile suspect. From there, police were able to arrest the suspect around 7 a.m.

Greg Lovell of WCPD said a woman was at the scene of the shooting.

“The Washington City Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victim's family,” police said in the news release.

“We would also like to thank everyone who contributed to this incident as well as the local citizens present at the scene.”

The press release said Washington City Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Metro SWAT Team and the Washington City Dispatch Center assisted with the incident.

The incident remains under investigation, according to WCPD.
