BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Sheriff's Office is sharing information about the use of fireworks as Independence Day approaches.

According to the sheriff's office, the ordinance regarding the use of fireworks in the county states: “Persons may use, ignite, shoot or explode fireworks authorized by KRS Chapter 227 under -chapter in the county. Fireworks, including consumer fireworks, may only be used from June 27 to July 3 and July 5 and 6 between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. On July 4, fireworks, including consumer fireworks, may be used between 10 a.m. until midnight. Any person wishing to use, ignite, shoot, or detonate fireworks authorized by KRS Chapter 227 on any other day may obtain a permit from the Warren County Judge Executive's Office.

The sheriff's office also asks for a reminder that hot, dry and windy conditions can lead to a potentially disastrous situation with fireworks.

Some safety tips include following local ordinances regulating the sale and use of fireworks, following label directions, having adult supervision at all times, using fireworks and sparklers in safe areas, away from fields, forests and buildings, lighting one fireworks at a time, handling lighters safely, never pointing or throwing fireworks or sparklers on people or animals, keep water and gardening tools nearby, and wet towels to extinguish small flames.
