Wanted South Carolina man shot and killed at Oceanway gas station linked to Westside stabbing

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A 44-year-old South Carolina man shot and killed by US Marshals during a shooting at an Oceanway gas station is linked to the death of a 29-year-old man who was fatally stabbed on Jacksonville's Westside, a the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Nelson Marrero was wanted in South Carolina for sexual assault. On May 21, a U.S. Marshal shot Marrero during an investigation at a Circle K gas station at North Main Street and New Berlin Road.

According to a JSO report, on May 16, Marrero argued with Corey Sampson over unfinished repairs on his motorcycle at a home on La Marche Drive.

Marrero pulled out a knife and witnesses said Sampson told him to drop it so they could fight like men.

Witnesses told JSO that Marrero stabbed Sampson in the neck and left the scene.

Sampson died from his injuries.
