Walter Vinicio Diaz Perez struck by SUV on Woodtrail Dr. near Gaston

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have released the name of a teenage pedestrian who died Saturday night after being struck by an SUV in Lexington County.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on Woodtrail Drive near Meadowfield Road, west of Gaston.

Ridgeway said the crash occurred when a 2004 Dodge SUV was traveling on Woodtrail Drive and struck a pedestrian, later identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as 17-year-old Walter Vinicio Diaz Perez , by Gaston. Fisher said the victim died at the scene. The driver remained on scene and was not injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
