Walker County Sheriff's Office arrested two people on suspicion of car theft

WALKER CO., Ala. (WBRC) – An alleged car theft ring is being busted in Walker County after deputies arrested two people they say are connected to it.

George Michael Washington and Stacy Lynn Washington are both incarcerated on multiple stolen property charges.

Walker County deputies found four stolen cars Monday morning on Coon Creek Road in Empire. They call it a “stolen vehicle ring” and claim the serial numbers of these cars have been altered or altered.

Sheriff Nick Smith said he discovered fake VIN number stickers on top of the real ones.

It all started around 10 a.m. when they received a call from the Brookhaven, Georgia Police Department about a stolen car in the area.

Sheriff Nick Smith said after locating the car in question and several others on the property, officers executed a search warrant at the home where they also found narcotics and cash.

He is now issuing a warning to anyone buying a car. He says if the price is too good to be true, it probably is.

“You know, this is an $80,000 vehicle and if someone is trying to sell you an $80,000 vehicle for $15,000, that should probably raise some sort of red flag,” he said. said the sheriff. “They were also creating fake titles and bills of sale and things of that nature.”

Sheriff Smith said they don't yet know where all the vehicles were stolen or where they were going, but they believe they were being held at that specific property for someone else.
