Volusia County Sheriff cracks down on unauthorized truck gatherings in Daytona Beach

The Sheriff's Office is on alert and warning the public of an unauthorized event occurring Friday in Daytona Beach.

According to online flyers circulating on social media, the “Daytona Truck Meet 2024” begins June 14 and lasts through the weekend.

In response to this unauthorized event, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood is designating a “special events zone” at the beachfront – beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

It stipulates zero tolerance for noise violations, which applies to anyone amplifying vehicle sound that can be heard more than 25 feet away.

Signs are already posted, warning people of doubling traffic fines and impounding of vehicles for violations.

According to Chitwood's order, the special events zone is bounded by A1A from south of Plaza Boulevard to Florida Shores Boulevard. It stretches nearly 6.5 miles and remains in effect until the “unsanctioned pop-up event dissipates.”

Online reaction is mixed. Some argue that Sheriff Chitwood is cracking down on unauthorized truck gatherings, others say they will continue to go there.
