Volunteer weekend near the magnificent Valles caldera! · National Parks Conservation Association

Roll up your sleeves and join us for the opportunity to help protect the Valleys Caldera, and enjoy a weekend of camping and discovering this beautiful landscape and the lands connected to it!

Although the reserve has a long history of livestock grazing, grazing is no longer permitted along sensitive streams and wetlands within its boundaries. But grazing is permitted on Forest Service land surrounding the preserve and, unfortunately, there are cases of unauthorized livestock entering the preserve from adjacent national forest pastures. Livestock are often found in riparian areas of the park, causing damage to waterways, wetlands and vegetation.

NPCA is partnering with the Albuquerque Wildlife Federation and Rio Grande Return to bring volunteers to the preserve for a camping workshop: Volunteers will help repair fences to ensure livestock stay on adjacent pastures and protect the fragile vegetation and wetland streams, and will assist in watercourse management. restoration efforts to repair bank erosion and raise the water table, thereby improving the health of the watershed. Join us for a great weekend of camping and help ensure the health of the region's watershed!
