Vincent Pappas sentenced in Dobbs Ferry teen assault case

A Dobbs Ferry man was sentenced last week to prison following the September 2022 assault of two teenagers. The defendant was also tried and convicted in another hate crime case.

The Westchester County Prosecutor, in an official press release, indicated that on September 29, 2022, just after 5:30 p.m., the suspect followed two 15-year-old youths to a restaurant on Dobbs Ferry Main Street. It was then alleged that the accused began shouting at them and then punched one of the teenagers so hard that he fell to the ground. The press release states that when the second teen attempted to physically stop the defendant, he was then thrown through a glass display case.

Reports indicate that parts of the incident were captured on surveillance video.

Following the altercation, one of the teens was transported to Westchester Medical Center to receive treatment for a collapsed lung, broken cervical spine and multiple lacerations, while the other surrendered to Riverside Hospital in St. John's due to swelling and head pain. face, jaw, chest and thighs.

Dobbs Ferry man arrested for assault on teens

Shortly after the incident on September 29, 2022, Dobbs Ferry Police arrested the defendant, later identified as Vincent Pappas, 63, of Dobbs Ferry. He was remanded to Westchester County Jail.

Pappas pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court in September 2023 to the felony charge of first-degree assault and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly subject to years of “post-release supervision.”

On June 20, Pappas was sentenced to six years in state prison, as well as a one-year sentence for another hate crime case, for repeatedly threatening and harassing a 13-year-old Hispanic boy .

The hate crimes occurred between July 5 and September 29, 2022, during which Pappas repeatedly harassed and threatened the teenager, of Guatemalan descent, also on Main Street in Dobbs Ferry. He reportedly stated several times that “he hated Guatemalans and would kill the victim if he did not leave the country.”
