Village police and firefighters hold annual softball game to raise money for Special Olympics

The village police department and fire department will host their annual Battle of the Badges softball game Saturday to raise money to support Special Olympics Oklahoma athletes.

The Village PD's Ryan Jacobson, along with Special Olympian Abby Papirtis and her father Jeff stopped by News 9 at 9 to talk more about the event.

Jacobson said this was the fourth annual softball game and the second year they donated to the Special Olympics.

He said their goal was to involve everyone in the community in the fundraising.

“We really tried to get the community involved and make it a big community event,” Jacobson said. “It's a good time for everyone, it's a good time for us to get out and do something other than law enforcement.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit local Special Olympics athletes. Jeff said community support was essential for them.

“The Special Olympics gave him such an opportunity to shine, and it’s even better now that the community is stepping up, raising money and the police and firefighters are involved,” Jeff said.

There will be beverages provided by Meridian Coffee, a meet and greet with Miss Oklahoma, food trucks and more.

The game will take place at 10 a.m. at the Casady School baseball field.
