VIDEO: Teen uses martial arts training to shoot, suffocate man he suspects of trying to steal his car

A teenager is being hailed for using his mixed martial arts and jiu-jitsu training to quickly subdue a man he thought was trying to steal his car, and it was all caught on surveillance video.

Gavin Archer, 18, was working out at the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu gym in Indianapolis on Monday when he noticed a man staring at cars in the parking lot, according to gym owner Ian Pomfret.

“He was able to minimize the blows thrown at him in judo, throwing the man to the ground, securing his back and choking him until he lost consciousness.”

Pomfret posted video of the exchange that followed from surveillance cameras inside the gym.

Archer walked to the front door and interacted with the man before he was attacked. Archer reacted quickly and used his skills to knock the man to the ground. After that, he strangled him until he lost consciousness.

“Because of [Gavin]Through years of training in martial arts and Jiu jitsu, he was able to minimize the blows thrown at him by judo throwing the man to the ground, securing the man's back and choking him to eliminate the immediate threat of danger in order to eliminate the immediate threat of danger. he could call the police,” Pomfret wrote.

The video on the owner's Instagram account garnered more than 13,000 likes and was published by WRTV-TV in its YouTube report.

Archer told WISH-TV he plans to press charges because the man allegedly attacked him.

“This is why Jiu Jitsu saves lives. Imagine if [Gavin] had no training when this man attacked him. He could be seriously injured or die.

“This guy apparently attacked someone before. I hope this man gets the help he needs,” Archer said. “Without this gym and this training, who knows what would have happened.”

WISH also spoke with the man accused of trying to steal cars. He said he worked at an auto body shop near the gym and that the altercation was a misunderstanding.

“I took a stand and raised my voice a little bit and took a step like, 'Hey, listen to me.' He took a step back and pushed the gym door the rest of the way, which in that situation seemed to be coming at me next, so I just reacted and chased after him,” Andrew Wilkerson said .

Wilkerson said he tried to get into a car because it matched the description of a car they had been hired to repair. He accuses Archer of making the situation worse, which the teenager denies.

Regardless of who attacked first, Pomfret took the opportunity to encourage people about the benefits of martial arts training.

“This is why Jiu Jitsu saves lives. Imagine if [Gavin] had no training when this man attacked him. He could be seriously injured or even die,” he continued.

Pomfret has one last piece of advice for parents.

“Find a Jiu Jitsu school and enroll yourself or your children IMMEDIATELY. You never know what could happen tomorrow,” he concluded.

Archer had a biblical quote from the book of John on his account and added: “Jesus is king.”

Wilkerson no longer works at the auto repair shop.
