Video of Bionca Ellis in prison

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (WJW) – New video released by the FOX 8 I-Team gives us our first look at Bionca Ellis behind bars minutes after her arrest for the murder of a child outside a North Olmsted grocery store.

This week, the I-Team revealed that it happened days after a magistrate raised concerns about Ellis' mental health.

The new video shows Ellis talking about her first steps in the North Olmsted police booking room, locked in a holding cell.

She had just been arrested Monday afternoon for stabbing 3-year-old Julian Wood and his mother in what police said was a random attack. Little Julian was stabbed to death.

In the booking room video, you also see Ellis sitting, handcuffed, rocking back and forth.

Then, when the officers move her, she stops for a moment with an angry look before moving forward.

This week, the I-Team challenged Rocky River judge Brian Hagan. He had released Ellis on a probation violation in a theft case, however, a magistrate requested a mental health evaluation.

Three days later, police arrested Ellis for murder.

So we also checked prison records. What did the police notice when they took Ellis into jail? What did they notice during his time behind bars in North Olmsted for this case?

She spent two days locked up there before going to the county jail.

Jail records show no signs of trouble with Ellis behind bars, and she received a visit from an attorney from the public defender's office.

But we also saw a mental and physical assessment form. d,

“Are the inmate's conduct, appearance and mental health normal? » a listed question asked.

“No,” says the indicated answer.

Judge Hagan told us that no one was available last week for this mental health exam and that he saw nothing that would predict murder.

“There was no red flag on that pole. There was no indication here,” he said.

Many of you reacted to the judge's response to our question, wondering if he would do anything differently to handle this or a similar case next time.

Judge Hagan said: “Nothing. I am confident in the manner in which this court has handled the matter,” Judge Hagan said. “We did it to the letter of the law. There was nothing there to set off the alarm.

Yet this case sheds light on what happened before as well as what is happening now with Ellis behind bars.

She is currently sitting in the Cuyahoga County Jail, charged with murder and more. She appears before a county judge Monday to begin facing the charges.
