Police have now confirmed the names of two people who died in a crash on Malaghans Road on Thursday.

They were Simran Shiuagani Mala, 25, and Jamie William Pitman, 35, both from Frankton, Queenstown.

“Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this tragic time,” a police spokesman said.

“The Serious Accident Unit attended and investigations into the accident are ongoing.”

Emergency services attended the scene at 10pm, including three ambulances, a helicopter and local fire crews.

Simran Mala and Jamie Pitman, who were a couple, were found dead at the scene, on the stretch of road between Dalefield Road and Hunter Road. Five others were injured.

The crash involved two vehicles, including a van from the nearby Millbrook Golf Resort, but the deceased were in the other vehicle.
