Although the exact circumstances of the victim's death were not immediately clear, homicide detectives were called in to take over the case.

“The investigation is in its early stages and little is known about the circumstances that led to the stabbing,” SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski said Thursday afternoon. “However, detectives learned that there had been some sort of argument between the (victim) and a (woman) that occurred in a vehicle they were in. During this argument, a knife was present and (the man) suffered a fatal stab wound…Currently, (the woman's) role in this incident is still being evaluated.”
