Victim of fatal Livingston arson identified; 15-year-old girl charged

Police have identified the victim of a fatal fire at 2879 Route 9 in Livingston, Columbia County. He is Edmund W. Metz, 58 years old. A 15-year-old girl intentionally set the fire, police said.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 1:15 p.m. following a report of people trapped inside. Metz was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girl was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree arson. She was arraigned in Columbia County Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail.

Police have not said how Metz and the girl knew each other.

The home was a second home on the property that was rented, the fire chief said.
