Victim of fatal KCK shooting identified as local teen, two others continue recovery

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) — The victim of a fatal overnight shooting in Kansas City, Kan., has been identified as a 17-year-old local man, while two other people continue to recover from injuries unrelated to the shooting.

The Kansas City, Kansas, police department announced Friday, June 28, that it has identified the victim of a fatal shooting in the 4800 block of Steele Rd. as Michael Welch, 17, of KCK.

On Wednesday evening, June 26, first responders said they were called to the scene with reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Welch outside a home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

KCKPD noted that two other victims were transported to a nearby hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries that were not caused by gunfire.

As of Friday, the incident remained under investigation. No information about the suspect or any other details regarding the case have been released. Anyone with information about the incident should report it to the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
