Victim of fatal Charlotte shooting identified

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the victim of a Monday evening homicide as Claudiano Alfonso Contreras Espinosa.

Espinosa, 54, was found with a gunshot wound shortly before 11 p.m. May 27 in the 100 block of Kingsford Drive, just east of Interstate 77 and north of Arrowwood Road. The doctor declared him dead on the spot. The shooting happened at an apartment complex, according to published reports.

As of Wednesday afternoon, CPMD had not announced an arrest in the case or revealed a possible motive.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

As of May 29, CMPD has reported at least eight homicides in Mecklenburg County this month.
