Victim of deadly shooting on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach was trying to break up an argument, arrest warrants show

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Columbia man shot and killed Saturday night in Myrtle Beach was trying to break up an argument between two other people, according to arrest warrants.

Cedric Reddick, 30, died at 10:45 p.m. from “multiple traumatic gunshot wounds” after being shot in the 2300 block of Ocean Boulevard, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner said. Tamara Willard.


The suspected shooter, Anthony Maurice Garner, 44, of Albermarle, North Carolina, faces charges of murder and possession of a deadly weapon during a violent crime. He remains incarcerated at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Police said the incident stemmed from a road rage confrontation between Garner and a Reddick associate who punched Garner in the face at some point during the fight. Garner then pulled a gun out of his car and fired, striking Reddick.

This wasn't the first time the Grand Strand was the scene of shootings during one of the busiest weekends of the year.

In 2014, Sandy Gaddis Barnwell was shot and killed along Ocean Boulevard over Memorial Day weekend in a case that remains unsolved.

In 2021, two people were injured across the region during the holidays.

In January, Anthony Griffin, 20, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after pleading guilty to battery stemming from a 2020 gang-related shooting on Ocean Boulevard. In another incident, a suspect captured in a 2023 shooting in the same area that went viral on social media was later denied bail.
