MIAMI – Autistic woman speaks out after reporting she was sexually assaulted in a Broward mall restroom in May 2022.

Jane Doe says she's on a mission with a negligence lawsuit.

“My goal is to make shopping malls safer for adults and children with autism spectrum disorders,” Doe said.

“I am a young adult with autism spectrum disorder who was sexually assaulted in a family bathroom,” Doe said.

Doe said she was sitting in the mall's food court after volunteering in a mentoring program for people with autism.

She said she was approached by Terrance Style and he forced her to go to the bathroom and sexually assaulted her. Style faces a list of charges, including sexual assault and false imprisonment. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

“I'm still traumatized by what happened. I'm more hyper-aware since the incident and I always look around when I go out because of the attack,” she said.

“Security is not a privilege. Security is a right. And when our client went to the mall that day, Broward Mall and Allied Security failed to protect her,” the attorney said Kimberly Wald.

The mall released a statement saying, “We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our shoppers, employees and retailers. We invest significantly in security, both personally and technologically, and cooperate with local law enforcement teams when necessary. »
