Victim identified in South Nevada Avenue murder in Colorado Springs | Crime and justice

The El Paso County Coroner's Office has identified the victim in the May 23 homicide on South Nevada Avenue as 45-year-old Darryl Edward Scurry Jr.

On May 23, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a shooting on South Nevada Avenue, near the southbound exit ramp of Interstate-25.

One person has died after being discovered injured on the road. Police are investigating the incident as a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Scurry with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The coroner's office is still determining the cause and manner of death, but the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

At this time, no suspects are in custody and detectives will continue to investigate the incident, including information on potential suspects.

This is the 20th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. Last year at this time, there were 11 homicides.
