Victim identified in shooting that shut down Southern Nevada

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has identified the victim in a fatal shooting that shut down Southern Nevada near I-25 for several hours on May 23, 2024.

CSPD says on May 23, 2024, at approximately 6:04 a.m., officers responded to a call for service regarding a shooting on South Nevada Avenue, near the southbound exit ramp of I-25. When officers arrived, they found a man with at least one gunshot wound. The man was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The El Paso County Coroner identified the victim as 45-year-old Darryl Edward Scurry Jr.. Although the coroner's office will determine the cause and manner of death, this case is being investigated as a homicide.

It's the 20thth murder in Colorado Springs. Last year at this time, there were 11 homicides.

At this time, no suspects are in custody and detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident, including obtaining information on a possible suspect.
