NORTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A man who drowned in Norton Reservoir Monday has been identified.

The Bristol County Prosecutor's Office said the body of Ronald Carty, 42, of Attleboro, was found and recovered around 11:08 p.m. Monday.

Officials said crews responded around 7:30 p.m. after learning that a middle-aged man had dove from a motorboat into the water and did not resurface.

Norton Deputy Chief Todd Jackson said two other men on the boat told police they tried to throw the man a life vest, but the rescue attempt was unsuccessful.

The Norton and Massachusetts State Police departments, along with dive teams and a helicopter, were on scene.

The prosecutor's office said the drowning appeared to be accidental, but added that the investigation into the death was still active.
