Victim identified in homicide on West Congress Street in Lafayette

The Lafayette Police Department has identified the victim in the homicide that occurred early this morning in the 3800 block of West Congress Street. The victim, Corey James Lapoint, 38, of Lafayette, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds shortly before 1 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police responded to the scene around 12:58 a.m. Upon arrival, officers established a crime scene and called investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. The investigation continues as detectives work to piece together the events leading up to the incident.
