June 7 update:

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office identified the deceased man as Eric Heaney, 79, of Reno.

Heaney was pronounced dead after arriving at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Eric, also known as Rick Heaney, is well known in Reno as the former owner of the Little Nugget in downtown Reno.

Original story, June 5:

A fatal head-on collision temporarily closed part of Sparks Boulevard. near Prater and East Lincoln Ways in Sparks.

The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said a car was heading south when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center reservation and collided head-on with a second car.

Two people were extricated from their car and transported to nearby hospitals. One person later died.

At this time, police are not releasing any information about the deceased.
