Victim identified in fatal stabbing in Forest Lawn

The victim of a fatal altercation last week in Calgary's southeast Forest Lawn neighborhood has been identified by Calgary police.

Dean Visser, 16, of Calgary, died in hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries, an autopsy conducted Sunday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed.

“This tragic incident was unnecessary. My condolences go out to the victim's family,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson said in a press release.

“The impact of an incident like this has a ripple effect through the community. I sympathize with the family and friends who have been shaken by this tragic loss.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of 41 Street SE around 7 p.m. Thursday after reports of a fight with a weapon.

At the scene, police found Visser suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder, police said in a news release Saturday.
