Victim identified by police in fatal Princeton shooting | News

Princeton — An investigation continued Tuesday into the fatal shooting of a man on Kee Street in Princeton.

Around 1 a.m. on June 8, officers from the Princeton Police Department were dispatched to 417 Kee Street for a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Princeton Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found Shaileshbhai Patel, 52, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Officers immediately secured the scene and called for assistance from the Princeton Fire Department and the Princeton Rescue Squad.

At that time, detectives and agents began an investigation that continued Tuesday.

The victim was transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiner's Office in Charleston for an autopsy.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Princeton Police Department at 304-487-5000 or, after hours, Mercer County Dispatch at 304-425-8911.

A second shooting was reported June 7 on Chicory Road outside of Bluefield. Detective Corporal MT Hatfield of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department said the shooting was unrelated to the Princeton incident. Police were dispatched to the scene following a shooting that occurred inside a moving vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Micah Dickerson, 20, of Bluefield, was shot, Hatfield said. Dickerson was later pronounced dead at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital.

A passenger, Scott Edward White, 37, Bluefield was later arrested and charged with manslaughter. A Ruger .9mm pistol and two clips for the gun were found at the scene.
