Victim identified as deceased in Lehigh River still under investigation

Carbon County authorities continued to investigate the death of a man in an incident Monday on the Lehigh River.

Carbon County Coroner Mark K. Smith said Tuesday that Felix Dejesus Jr., of Jim Thorpe, was pronounced dead at 1:17 p.m. Monday by Deputy Coroner Dave Stianche.

Following an autopsy conducted Tuesday, the cause and manner of death remain pending toxicology testing, Smith said in a news release.

The incident occurred just downstream from the Jim Thorpe Wastewater Treatment Plant in Mahoning Township in Carbon.

Firefighters from Jim Thorpe and Lehighton assisted with recovery efforts on the river.

In addition to the coroner's office, the death remains under investigation by the Carbon County District Attorney's Office, Pennsylvania State Police in Lehighton and Jim Thorpe police.
