Vehicle fire reported on I-75 in Covington

Again, just to be aware of all of this, we have brain fog at times and actual fog this morning. SO WE HAVE STORMS OVERNIGHT. They may have woken you up briefly but as a result of that the skies cleared and that caused fog to develop in some of our areas this morning as we watch the live radar right now, it t's quiet here in Greater Cincinnati. I'm going to zoom out so you can see the big view and this cold front coming through eastern Ohio with some thunderstorms, that's what we're looking at, it's kind of a wrap around the rain on the back of this thing. So it's raining towards Fort Wayne and Chicago. And as we head into the afternoon, you know, it takes a while to get here. WE WILL SEE A FEW SCATTERED SHOWERS RETURN TO THE AREA. BUT SCATTERED IS KIND OF THE KEY WORD HERE. THIS IS NOT HEAVY OR LONG-LASTING RAIN AT ALL. TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING. MOST LOCATIONS ARE SITTING IN THE LOW TO MID 50S. IT'S 54 DEGREES IN CINCINNATI, AS COOL AS 53. IN MOUNT ORB AND WILMINGTON AS WE GET THROUGH THE DAY, BE READY FOR SOME SCATTERED RAIN THIS AFTERNOON, BUT EVERYTHING IS PRETTY LIGHT. Our big problem, of course, will be the temperatures staying cool throughout the day. WE WILL TALK ABOUT THE TIMELINE FOR THIS RAIN TO ARRIVE FROM THE NORTH. FUTURE. OK, RANDI. THANK YOU. RIGHT NOW, ONE OF THE busiest stretches of highway in Greater Cincinnati is fully reopening after months. THIS MORNING. BARRIERS ON EASTBOUND LANES OF NORWOOD SIDE HAVE BEEN REMOVED AFTER REHABILITATION WORK. And you can now drive this stretch of road this morning. WLWT NEWS FIVE'S DANIELLE DINDAK IS LIVE FROM THE ROADS. DANIELLE FULLY OPEN FOR NOW. ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS. YES. HI GUYS. VERY EXCITING NEWS AND SHORT TERM RELIEF FOR DRIVERS BECAUSE THIS IS SOMETHING YOU REALLY CAN'T DO FOR THE LAST 80 DAYS. So if you don't believe what I'm telling you now, then you just need to take a look for yourself. Because take a look at this. EASTBOUND LANES OF NORWOOD SIDE ARE OPEN AGAIN. NOW OUR CAMERAS SAW CREWS WORKING TO REMOVE BARRIERS LATE NIGHT YESTERDAY TO ENSURE THIS VERY BUSY STREET OF THE ROAD WAS READY FOR THIS MORNING'S EARLY RUSH. This was all part of the first phase of rehabilitation of the bridge along the side. BUT AGAIN, THIS IS ONLY SHORT TERM. HERE'S A CALENDAR OF WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT. BOTH SIDES WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL JUNE 9. This is when the entrance and exit ramps to the westbound lanes will begin to close. ALL WESTBOUND LANES WILL BE CLOSED TO AUTOMOTIVES DURING THE START OF WORK ON JUNE 10 AND IS EXPECTED TO FINISH ON SEPTEMBER 27. SO ONCE AGAIN YOU CAN ENJOY BOTH SIDES OF THE NORWOOD SIDE THIS MORNING. So if you're going to go out, don't worry. EASTBOUND LANES ARE OPEN AGAIN. THE ENTIRE PROJECT WILL NOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL THE END OF THE FALL, BUT WE WILL CONTINUE TO INFORM YOU ABOUT THE TRAFFIC ASPECT DURING THE REST OF THE MORNING. BUT FOR NOW, SEND IT BACK YOU GUYS. ALL RIGHT. DANIELLE. YES, I think this is going to make traveling very easy for a lot of people this morning. ALL RIGHT. A PERSON RECOVERING THIS MORNING AFTER BEING HIGH WHILE DRIVING A SCOOTER IN COVINGTON YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. THE VICTIM ENDED UNDER THE CAR AND WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. BUT OFFICIALS TELL US THEY ARE NOW CONSIDERED STABLE AT UC MEDICAL CENTER. It happened just before three in the afternoon near Scott Street and Park Place. COVINGTON POLICE SAY THE DRIVER REMAINED AT THE SCENE AND IS CO-OPERATING WITH THIS INVESTIGATION. SO NOW, NO ONE IS FACING CHARGES. THE MAN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING A TEENAGER NEAR THE HOME OF FORMER BENGAL RUNNING BACK JOE MIXON HAS RETURNED TO COURT FOR A FINAL HEARING BEFORE HIS TRIAL. LAMONT BREWER WAS UNKNOWN LAST YEAR FOR THE SHOOTING OF A 16-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO LIVED NEAR JOE MIXON. IN CLASS. The U.S. Attorney's Office offered a deal of 96 months in prison for the assault charge. IT WAS REFUSED, BUT A NEW OFFER OF 60 MONTHS IS STILL ON THE TABLE. BREWER HAS UNTIL JUNE 13 TO ACCEPT OR REFUSE THIS AGREEMENT. HIS TRIAL IS EXPECTED TO START ON JUNE 24 AND LAST UP TO FIVE DAYS. A POLICE CHASE INVOLVING A STOLEN CAR HIGHLIGHTS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MANY VEHICLE MODELS IN OUR AREA OR ON OUR AREA ROADS. NOW WE TOLD YOU ABOUT THIS AS BREAKING NEWS YESTERDAY WHEN A WOMAN SAID HER KIA WAS STOLEN IN SAINT BERNARD AND ENDED UP CRASHED IN AVONDALE. AFTER THIS CHASE. Because this is the third time it's been taken. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE YOU HAD A STEERING WHEEL LOCK. YEAH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK IS ON. YOU MUST HAVE A KEY TO UNLOCK OR LOCK IT. And so that was it, that was it, when I heard all that. They had to be inside the car to blow it up. NOW, SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS ARE LOOKING FOR A SUSPECT AFTER THIS MORNING'S ACCIDENT, WE'RE TOLD. STILL NO ARRESTS. And the police are dealing with this vehicle now. This woman told us that it obviously cost her money. And she had to miss work yesterday to deal with the consequences of all this. AND THEFTS ARE A TREND THAT WE HAVE OFTEN REPORTED ON IN PAST YEARS DUE TO AN ONGOING SECURITY PROBLEM BETWEEN KIA AND HYUNDAI OVER THE PAST 15 YEARS. WLWT. GIACOMO LUCA FROM NEWS FIVE LIVE THIS MORNING FOR US NOW, GIACOMO, YOU HAVE SPOKE WITH A LOCAL BODY SHOP WHO IS STILL SEEING THIS PROBLEM Quite Often. AND IS THERE AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO PREVENT THIS CAR THEFT? It seems like this woman was doing everything she could. YEAH. KELLY, THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SOFTWARE AND MECHANICAL UPDATES THAT THESE COMPANIES HAVE ACTUALLY OFFERED FOR FREE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO PURCHASED THEIR CARS, BUT IT STILL REMAINS A PROBLEM. Area mechanics say these design flaws make these cars a continued target for thieves. THIS, ON 21, UM, OPTIMA. It's pretty much the same car. Yeah, I got that because a girl flew it for the third time and, uh, hers, when they didn't fly it, they didn't have the luck, but they did ripped out the wiring here, so we had it TO GET PART OF THE HARNESS WHEN MOST CARS MADE AFTER THE YEAR 2000 CAME STANDARD WITH VEHICLE MOBILIZERS, THIS DOUBLE LAYER SYSTEM THAT PREVENTS A CAR FROM STARTING WITHOUT KEY. THE ASSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR ROAD SAFETY STATES MANY KIAS AND HYUNDAI'S DO NOT HAVE THE SYSTEMS, ALLOWING THIEVES TO BREAK IN AND ENTRY THE IGNITION. I went to the experts at Fat Pat's here in Western Hills and they told me that these defects are an ongoing problem for their customers. NOW EXPERTS SAY THERE ARE WAYS TO STRENGTHEN THE PROTECTIONS ON THESE CARS USING A LAYERED APPROACH SUCH AS AFTERMARKET ALARMS, STEERING INTERLOCKS OR EVEN IMMOBILIZERS. THESE COSTS CAN RANGE FROM ABOUT LESS THAN $50 TO HUNDREDS. THE PROBLEM, BUT, IS THAT THESE CARS REMAIN A TARGET FOR THIEVES, WHICH MEANS THEY CAN BREAK IN, LEAVING YOU HUNDREDS, MAYBE EVEN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DOLLARS. LIVE THIS MORNING, I
