Vehicle crashes into pond in rural northeast Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Volunteer firefighters responded to a vehicle submerged underwater in northeast Nebraska Sunday morning.

The Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department said crews were alerted to a vehicle crashing into the water around 4 a.m. just south of town.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle, authorities said. It is unclear what led to the accident.

Several local agencies – including the Dixon County Sheriff's Office and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office – were also on scene.

Highway 35 was closed for several hours while crews recovered the vehicle. The scene was cleared around 9 a.m.
