Valley News – Newport man arrested for reckless driving with weapon in Claremont

CLAREMONT — A 20-year-old Newport man was arrested and charged with reckless driving with a deadly weapon after police say he fired shots on Twistback Road in Claremont and then led police on a chase across the town before crashing his vehicle on Sugar River. Road.

Kaleb Potter was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Sullivan County Court, according to a news release issued by Claremont police.

Police said they were called to Twistback Road after receiving a report of shots fired around 7 p.m. Tuesday and witnesses told them the shots appeared to involve an “older red Subaru Forester with two occupants inside.” interior,” the press release states.

The suspect's vehicle was then spotted by police on Sullivan Street, failed to yield to police commands to stop, and then “fleed at a high rate of speed through downtown Claremont and onto Chestnut Street, then onto Sugar River Drive until it crashes where the road turns. to gravel,” police said.

The two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. Additional charges are expected, police said.

Potter has previous convictions for reckless driving, resisting arrest and tampering with physical evidence, in addition to probation and parole violations, according to New Hampshire state court records.
