Vacant home destroyed in fire Sunday evening in Millerton

MILLERTON, Pa. (WETM) – Multiple departments responded to a fire that destroyed a vacant home in Jackson Township Sunday evening.

According to Facebook posts made by the Millerton Fire Company and the Lawrenceville Fire Department, a passerby reported a fire at a home on Warner Road in Millerton just before 11:30 p.m. on May 26. The house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The Millerton Fire Company and Big Elm Fire Department were first on scene, and the Lawrenceville, Webbs Mills and Pine City fire departments arrived shortly after. The Lawrenceville FD has set up a water fill site on Warner Road near State Route 328, according to the Big Elm FD.

The house was almost completely destroyed by the fire, and the fire left only part of the building's shell standing. Once the fire was extinguished, an excavator was used to demolish the remainder of the structure. Drapers Supply provided the shovel, which was also used to move rubble and find hot spots.

Firefighters spent hours putting out the flames, and the Lawrenceville FD says its crew didn't return to the station until around 3:45 a.m.

The house was for sale at the time of the fire and no one lived there. No one was hurt.
