Utah teen faces additional criminal charges in fatal shooting of 16-year-old

HERRIMAN, UT (ABC4) — More charges have been filed against Keith Tyree McClendon — teen police say is. linked to fatal stabbing from a 16-year-old Valley High School student.

McClendon, 19, was charged Thursday with one count of first-degree aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury with a gang enhancement and one count of third-degree aggravated assault, the District Attorney's Office said.

On May 29, two school-aged boys, along with one of the boy's mothers, attended a graduation ceremony. Before the ceremony began, the prosecutor's office said one of the boys received threatening phone calls and text messages from unknown numbers.

When the three men left the ceremony, they asked a South Jordan Police Department school resource officer to escort them to the mother's car, the district attorney's office said.

The mother then led the boys to one of the boys' cars which was parked nearby, but as they arrived one of the boys said he noticed a car driving by and was looking at them “d 'a weird way'.

The boys tried to rush into the car, but McClendon had already come around the corner, the prosecutor's office said. McClendon allegedly approached them and began banging on the window.

There were three other boys with McClendon, one of whom was identified as Hunter John Armstrong and the now deceased, 16 years old. According to the prosecutor's office, this group also started hitting the mother's car.

The prosecutor's office said the two boys tried to get out of their car but slipped, and McClendon allegedly began beating one of them with brass knuckles.

It was in the middle of a fight that the 16-year-old boy was stabbed. Another went to the hospital to be treated for facial lacerations and bruises, but the prosecutor's office said the 16-year-old died at the scene.
