US 'monster' mother sentenced to 84 years in prison after remains of her 5-year-old daughter found in home

Nelson told police officers who responded to the call that she had given her child to an adoption agency. However, the agency Nelson had named informed them that they had no contact or records for Nelson or his daughter.

After a search warrant was obtained for Nelson's apartment, police found charred remains of the child in his closet. Additionally, bone fragments in the ashes were found in the fireplace.

“It is both heartbreaking and appalling that a mother would kill her own child and then make up a false adoption story so the family would believe the child is alive and well,” said Senior Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Tierney, quoted in the press release.

District Attorney John Kellner said that despite the existence of adoption programs, which the mother knew about, Nelson “chose murder” instead.

“While there is no way to fully understand what turned this mother into a monster, she deserves to spend several decades behind bars for the unspeakable crime she committed,” he added.
