US ambassador acknowledges Israel's frustration over arms deliveries

US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew acknowledged Israel's frustration with the pace of arms deliveries.

Addressing the annual conference in Herzliya, Lew explained that while the US system is progressing rapidly, it may not match the urgency seen immediately after the conflict began on October 8.

“The initial speed of weapons delivery is not sustainable due to supply limitations,” Lew noted. He mentioned that although there were delays in the delivery of large-diameter bombs, “precision-guided missiles were still delivered.”

The issue recently gained attention when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video urging President Joe Biden to speed up arms deliveries. Lew, however, expressed puzzlement over allegations that the Biden administration is not sufficiently supporting Israel in its conflict with Hamas.

“We strongly support Israel and will continue to do so,” he stressed. “We have been transparent with Israel about the current situation and future steps.”

Lew also emphasized that the United States has consistently encouraged Israel to conduct the conflict in a way that aligns with shared values and seeks a positive outcome for the future. He praised Israel for its significant humanitarian aid efforts and clarified that the United States does not believe there is a famine in Gaza.

Discussing the future of Gaza's governance, Lew stressed the importance of having a clear plan: “The crucial issue is having a vision for the future of Gaza… It is essential to avoid returning to previous conditions.

He called for a comprehensive dialogue on the future of the Palestinian people and stressed that “Israel is on the verge of being accepted by all moderate Arab nations.”
