UPDATE: Police investigating Providence stabbing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred outside a liquor store on Chalkstone Ave on Wednesday.

Police responded to the scene at 10:08 p.m. and found the victim lying in the roadway on Academy Avenue with stab wounds to his back and shoulder.

The victim did not cooperate, according to police.

The victim's friend said they were outside the Acme Liquors store when a group of people approached them and said they wanted to fight the victim.

An altercation began and the other subjects chased the victim's friend into the Walgreens and assaulted him.

He came out and found the victim bleeding on the ground.

The subjects, described as three black males, fled the scene.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
