UPDATE: Police announce suspects in Cranston stabbing, murder

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Police have announced the names of the suspects arrested in an early morning stabbing and murder that occurred on Oak Street this morning in Cranston.

They also announced the identity of the victim who was killed.

Destiny Torres, 23, of North Providence, was arrested and charged with one count of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, a knife, for stabbing a 15-year-old male.

Edwin Torres, 24, of Cranston, was arrested and charged with one count of murder in the death of Isaac Vasquez, 21, of Cranston.

According to police, authorities responded to the scene around 1 a.m. after receiving an emergency call about a major disturbance in the area of ​​Oak Street at Trainor Street.

When police arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy stabbed in the back and bleeding profusely.

According to the officer, Destiny Torres, after allegedly stabbing the victim who remains in the hospital this afternoon, was seen getting into a gray Honda Accord driven by Edwin Torres.

At the same time, as additional officers arrived on scene, other officers reportedly saw Torres intentionally strike Vasquez with his vehicle, causing him to succumb to his injuries and be pronounced dead.

The Cranston Police Detective Unit, BCI Unit, Traffic Unit, and the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office are currently working on this investigation and it is ongoing.

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Vasquez’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time and we extend our deepest condolences,” Maj. Todd Patalano said in a statement.

Both will appear in court this afternoon.
