HERRIMAN, Utah, May 30, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested four suspects in Wednesday's fatal stabbing, two of whom were injured in the incident that left a boy dead. 16 years old.

Police were dispatched to the scene around 12:30 p.m. in the area of 14800 S. Beckenbauer Ave. She found the victim in the driver's seat of a car.

In an update given to reporters at the scene just before 6 p.m., Herriman Deputy Police Chief Cody Stromberg said the identification of the four men led to a Riverton address on Daggerwing Way and a call SWAT at the residence. But the suspects surrendered peacefully and the lockdown at a nearby elementary school was lifted, he said.

It remains unclear who delivered the fatal blow, Stromberg said, but the circumstances leading to the confrontation included both groups of suspects and victims attending a nearby high school graduation. It appears no altercations took place during these ceremonies, he said.

The four suspects — two adult women, an adult man and a juvenile man — have not been arrested, he said, but are still considered and detained as persons of interest cooperating with investigators.

Two of them were taken in a private vehicle to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries following the fatal encounter, he said.

The two groups know each other and have a history, he said, and the confrontation was not a random act, but a targeted event. “As far as motive goes, we’re still working on it.”

The identity of the deceased, aged 16, has not been released and notifications are still pending.

Stromberg said decisions about arrests and charges will be made in the coming days “now that we know who the players are.”
