[UPDATE: Forward Progress Stopped]Wildland fire ignites near Mendocino/Sonoma county line

A wildland fire nicknamed the “Preston Fire” broke out this afternoon, Tuesday, June 25, 2024, near the Mendocino/Sonoma County line, igniting in the area of ​​Highway 101 and Geysers Road, on the east side of the Russian River.

Firefighters at the scene reported the fire is currently two acres. The flames rise, pushed by the slope, and spread quickly. The fire has already caused a localized fire on a nearby road.

A full wilderness response was requested to respond to the incident.

CAL FIRE LNU released the following information about the incident:


UPDATE 4:48 p.m.: Air assets are en route to the Preston fire and the incident commander is requesting more water, reporting that the fire has reached a grove of eucalyptus trees.


UPDATE 4:53 p.m.: The Air Attack Incident Commander reported that the Preston Fire is currently burning three acres with a moderate rate of spread. The fire is progressing up a slope, showing flaming activity in the oak and grass forests. The risk of the fire spreading significantly is low.


UPDATE 4:58 p.m.: The air attack incident commander reported that the fire's progress had been stopped.
