UPDATE: Bus driver killed in Font Hill crash identified

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Police have identified the bus driver who succumbed to injuries he suffered in a crash on the Font Hill main road, near the St Elizabeth-Westmoreland border, on Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Junior Ramsey, a resident of the Fort William district of Westmoreland.

St Elizabeth police chief Superintendent Coleridge Minto said the accident happened around 4am and involved a minibus.

Thirteen passengers who were on board the bus were injured in the accident.

“This motor vehicle was traveling eastbound towards Rivière Noire, it is reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll over several times,” Minto said.

He said the injured driver and passengers were taken to hospital where Ramsey was pronounced dead.

“A female passenger was reported to be seriously injured and is undergoing surgery,” Minto said.

The police chief calls on motorists to exercise caution.

“Font Hill is one of the corridors that we continue to urge motorists to use with caution. We have had several serious accidents along this road. The investigation is ongoing at this time,” Minto said.
