UPDATE: Body found in Illinois River has been identified

UPDATE: PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Authorities have identified the body found Friday in the Illinois River in Peoria County.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said the body was identified as that of Seiarra (Waddell) DeLasso, 37, of Peoria. The Peoria County Coroner's Office and Sheriff's Office issued a public appeal for help with the identification.

“We appreciate the public’s assistance and tips that assisted in the positive identification,” Harwood said in a news release.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

UPDATE – PEORIA COUNTY, IL – The investigation continues into the discovery of a woman's body in the Illinois River and authorities are seeking the public's help in identifying the victim.

Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins said an employee at Mosiac Fertilizer near Cargill Road found the body around 1:45 p.m. Friday, floating about 20 feet from shore in the barge loading area. The body is believed to have been in the river for at least 24 hours.

The Peoria County Coroner's Office describes the victim as a white female, 18 to 30 years old, five feet six inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds. She has a tattoo on her right forearm reading “INTEGRITY”. She also had orthopedic surgery on her left upper arm with evidence of plates and screws in that arm.

Sheriff Chris Watkins said an employee at Mosiac Fertilizer near Cargill Road in Hollis Township made the discovery around 1:45 p.m. in the barge loading area.

Watkins says the employee found the woman's body floating about 20 feet from shore.

It appears the body had been in the river for at least 24 hours.

The identity and circumstances of the woman's death are under investigation.
