Update: Birmingham motorcyclist killed in 'targeted shooting' identified

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – A man was shot and killed in Birmingham Wednesday afternoon while riding a motorcycle, according to BPD Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to reports of shots fired near the intersection of 1st Avenue South and Center Street.

Police arrived on scene and found Obray Carter, 39, unconscious on a motorcycle with an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead.

Police believe Carter was riding his cruiser-style motorcycle near the intersection when an unknown suspect shot him, then fled the scene.

“Currently, we are investigating this incident as a targeted shooting,” Fitzgerald said.

There is no one in custody at this time.
